31 Jul Family still searching for answers after murder of Wichita …
WICHITA, Kan. Eyewitness News Tuesday night hears from family of Chuck Giles, a Wichita restaurant owner murdered and robbed in his own driveway nearly two weeks ago.
We spoke with Giles’ girlfriend and, for the first time, his daughter. They say the family is still searching for answers.
Many in the community knew Giles, whether they stopped in his restaurant (Neighbors near 21st and North Meridan) or knew him for his generous heart.
His family says Giles often gave second chances to people with a checkered past. A friend told Eyewitness News it could’ve been Giles’ giving nature or the cash he always carried that made him an easy target.
“I want my dad to have justice and I want everybody to have the closure on who did this. And I’ve been telling my dad every day, ‘I’m going to find out who did this,'” Giles daughter, Ashley Giles says.
Ashley shares her story for the first time in hopes of bringing justice for her father.
Family and friends remember Giles as a generous man. His girlfriend, Connie Schrader says he was a friend who would help out if you asked him.
“All they had to do was ask for some money and he would give it to them,” Schrader says. “And that’s all. They didn’t have to go to the extreme that they went to.”
Giles is also remembered as a boss who would give second chances. He was known to hire employees from work-release programs.
As a restaurant owner, Giles was known to carry a large amount of case on him. That’s why family and friends believe Giles knew the person who killed him.
“I’m sure Chuck knew who it was. And that’s why they did what they did, so they couldn’t be identified,” Schrader says.
Eyewitness News asked police if there is a connection between Giles hiring employees from work-release programs and his murder and robbery. They won’t comment for now, saying it’s part of the ongoing investigation.
Police say they don’t have a suspect and are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information about the Chuck Giles case should call the Wichita Police Department.
Giles family has set up a GoFundMe page, offering a reward for anyone who can provide information that leads to an arrest in the case.
