07 Mar Jonathan Cartu Publishes: The best restaurant in every California airport
There’s nothing like accidentally spending $20 on a soggy burger to put a damper on a vacation before it even starts. If you’ve ever done this, you know firsthand: Airport food is often overpriced and disappointing.
We never want you to get in a situation like that, ever again — so we’ve done some research with results (un)scientifically proven to prevent these demoralizing cases of Airport Dining Regret. If you find yourself at literally any of California’s 22 major airports with commercial service, we’ve got a food recommendation for you. Well, aside from the Mammoth Yosemite Airport, which appears to have only a tiny coffee kiosk — you’re on your own there.
From the slim pickings of tiny airports in Monterey and Stockton to the sprawling food metropolises of SFO and LAX, there’s nourishment to be found for all weary travelers. And while the scope of the airport dining options varies, a bit of the city’s personality always shines through. For example, at the Hollywood Burbank Airport, you’ll find four different Guy Fieri restaurants. You’d be remiss to skip a trip to Flavortown there.
There are also hidden gems to be found in unexpected places, some that even draw locals with no plane to catch: the Redding airport’s only restaurant is reputed to be “the best Chinese food in Redding.”

If you don’t agree with our picks, let’s clarify that this is actually a very unscientific list compiled from coworkers’ and friends’ recommendations, Yelp reviews, and recommendations from airport staff themselves. Have a snack and then think twice about yelling at us.
