03 Apr Jonathan Cartu Says: At-Home Skincare Tips And Recipes From Hollywood’s Leading …
There is a silver lining to each day that we are on lockdown. After spending years telling others and ourselves that we simply do not have the luxury of time, we all finally have long days ahead for meditation, a workout, picking up a new hobby, learning how to cook, reading a book, getting creative and giving yourself the self care you deserve.
Known for her ultra luxurious gold leaf mask treatments, Mimi Luzon offers a thing of two on creating silver linings through at-home skincare. With a high profile clientele that includes Naomi Campbell, Kaia Gerber, Irina Shayk, Adriana Lima and the Hadid sisters, Mimi has been the go-to aesthetician in Hollywood for facials that promise to radiant, glowing skin for the last 30 years. Since there really isn’t much opportunity to book an appointment with her these days, the beloved facialist (who is also staying safe at home) is offering tips for creating an A-list approved skincare routine.
Mimi’s morning routine begins with a gentle cleanse. She also suggests an enzymatic exfoliation at least twice a week for that brand new glow. Enzyme based exfoliators are more gentle than your usual facial scrub and are anti inflammatory. This is followed by a serum and moisturizer. “Massage into the skin starting from the center of the face, working outwards.”
I like to cleanse in the morning with GLOW RECIPE’s Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser which gives skin that instant perk without drying.
SWEET RECIPE’s Ginger + Vitamin C Serum has been a favorite for some months now. This brightening serum gives skin a super dose of antioxidants that hydrates and gives a natural glow.
Eye creams, according to Mimi, are important for morning skincare routines. “It is especially important in times when our sleeping patterns are disrupted,” she says. Application for eye creams must be done in reverse C-shape starting from under the eyes towards the lids.
I used to apply eye cream only when I remember to but since using TAILA Skincare’s Nayana Revitalizing Eye Balm, I’ve began to look forward to this most relaxing and aromatic step in the skincare routine.
She also recommends a firming cream for the neck in the mornings saying, “this area is very delicate and deserves extra attention.”NeoStrata’s Skin Active Triple Firming Neck Cream is a heaven sent that does not leave a heavy or greasy feel on skin. It is ideal to use for both day and night.
FACIAL MASKS IN THE AFTERNOON
Afternoons on lockdown are usually a time when I bring out a bag of chips. This week, I’ll be taking my queue from Mimi. She advices,
“Invest in masks and do them as much as possible. I currently do a different one every day.”
She draws inspiration from Eastern skincare philosophies and uses a different mask each day to address various skin concerns. “You can use any mast you have in the house every other day or you can make your own treatments at home.” Here are recipes of at home mask from Mimi:
GREEN TEA MASK to Detoxify and Enhance Skin Tone
· 1 cup of green tea
· 2 cups of rice flour
· ½ teaspoon of honey
Apply to the skin for 20 minutes.
Massage into the skin.
OATMEAL MASK to Exfoliate and Reduce Inflammation
· Boil 2 tablespoons of Oatmeal
· A squeeze of lemon (do not use if you have sensitive skin)
Let mixture cool.
Apply on skin and leave for 15 minutes.
TURMERIC MASK for Skin That’s Soft and Glowing
· 1 teaspoon of flour
· Spoonful of turmeric
· 1 teaspoon of lemon
· Spoonful of milk
Leave on skin for 20 minutes.
Nighttime skincare regimens are considered essential to healthy skin. It is during this time when the body regenerates. Mimi recommends, “Instead of tossing over leftover serums on your hands, mix and apply to the skin.”
Mimi Luzon’s 24K Pure Gold Glow is a restorative formula that hydrates, nourishes and rejuvenates dull skin. It combines 24k gold with grape seed oil and Omega fatty acids, aiding in collagen production and cell renewal.
The renowned facial with the golden touch also suggests using rich creams and other products that are about to be expired to other parts of the body that need moisturizing. “This is the perfect time to tidy up the bathroom cabinet. If you have superfluous rich moisturizing creams that you won’t use on your face, apply to your elbows or thighs instead of wasting.” Another essential element to good skin? Deep, quality sleep.
