The Professionals presenter got an accidental chocolate loo…

The Great British Bake Off contestants have created cake versions of themselves on purpose in the past, but this week’s edition of Bake Off: The Professionals stumbled on an accidental confectionary lookalike.

In the past few weeks, viewers have seen judges Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden become true taskmasters as they ripped apart all variety of unimpressive confections — including some naughty-shaped red velvet cakes.

This week, it was time for the judges’ revenge! In a challenge similar to The Great British Bake Off‘s Technical, Benoit and Cherish sprung a secret recipe for Kueh lapis (layered spice cake) on the bakers that they’d then have to replicate on the spot.

If that wasn’t stressful enough, there was also an Asian Week-themed Showpiece where the bakers were required to create chocolate towers with moving parts!

The duo from Palé Hall were in the middle of constructing their chocolate tower, which they modelled on a firecracker-decorated lantern.

That’s when co-presenter Tom Allen dropped by to point out that one of the decorations on their tower was looking strikingly familiar:

When it came time to actually taste the intricate tower, judges Benoit and Cherish were blown away by the design – but not as much by the taste.

In fact, Benoit complained that two of three miniature chocolates submitted by the Palé Hall duo were “not great”.

In the end, the finished face mask decoration on the lantern didn’t look too much like Tom Allen either. Yet, their overall submission was still impressive enough to get the win for the week!

Bake Off: The Professionals continues next Tuesday (May 21) at 8pm where the remaining bakers have to whip up 28 mini-tarts in just 3.5 hours, then totally reinvent the classic Battenberg sponge cake in the Showpiece round.

We’re starting to get hungry just thinking about it!
